Pre-Algebra: Chapter 8-6
Slope!
Rise divided by the run is the definition of slope. Rise is the movement up or down (vertically) on a graph, positive up and negative down. Run is like running on a track, the travel left or right (horizontally) on the same graph.
Using graph paper, we can count the squares up, down, left and right to determine the slope.
The slope, m is rise ÷ run or rise / run or the change in the y direction ÷ by the change in the x direction.
Instead of using graph paper, we can calculate the slope with the formula slope, m = (y2 – y1) ÷ (x2 – x1). Just remember to keep the direction of the y and x subtraction the same, don’t mix them up!
Once again, purplemath.com has an excellent presentation here!
Algebra: Chapter – oops, we are going to regroup here!
We are regrouping and trying a new method for factoring. Based on the Quiz #11 results, its time for a new strategy for factoring. Doing a little research, I have come up with a new angle – using the BOX METHOD.
Refer to the handouts and examples that are on the Algebra page for more details!
