Pre-Algebra: Chapter 7 Test and Chapter 8-1
Relations and Functions
A RELATION is a set of ordered pairs like (-3,1), (0,2) and (4, -2). The DOMAIN is the x terms (-3, 0, 4) and the RANGE is the y terms (1, 2, -2). The domain and the range lists each term ONLY ONCE.
A FUNCTION is a relation in which each element of the domain is paired with exactly one element in the range.
You can use the vertical line test to determine if a relation is a function.
