Fitting Equations to Data
Using a ruler, you plot the points of data that you have collected. The object is derive an equation that approximates all of the points linearly. It can’t, of course, but the object is to do the best that you can as an approximation.
It is helpful to perhaps plot the points on graph paper and choose 2 ordered pairs that “best fit” the data in a linear fashion. Choose those 2 points and do like Chapter 7-6 by using either the point-slope [ (y – y1) = m(x -x1) ] or slope-intercept (y = mx +b ) formulae.
The trick is to find the 2 points that BEST represent the actual data.
