Day 26

Pre-Algebra: Chapter 3, Lesson 1
Eliminate possible solutions when problem solving by trying an answer and see if it works, or building a diagram or picture and eliminating items that the evidence tells you are false. BIG HINT: Problem number 19, page 122, works best with a VENN DIAGRAM!

Algebra: Chapter 3, Lessons 3 and 4
Using both addition and subtraction AND multiplication and division to solve 2 Step equations!
We are trying to isolate the variable (solving for it – or finding out what its value is). Move all constants to the other side of the equation. You can do this by remembering to add or subtract or multiply or divide both sides of the equation.
Steps to do:
1. When possible, collect like terms and/or
2. Use the distributive property
3. Then use the addition/subtraction and multiplication/division process.

Hints:
– Usually, it’s easier to do the add/subtract BEFORE you do the multiplication/division.
– Don’t forget to use the reciprocal, its sometimes the same as dividing but faster.

DO NOT TAKE ANY SHORTCUTS, SHOW ALL THE WORK IN ALL ITS GORY DETAIL, THIS WILL REALLY SAVE YOU IN THE LONG RUN BY CUTTING DOWN ON SILLY MISTAKES!!
