Fractions, decimals and percents
A handy way to figure out decimals and percents is D2P.
- To go from decimals to percents, we travel to the RIGHT 2 decimal places
- To go from percents to decimals, we travel to the left 2 decimal places.
Just remember to move 2 places left or right and you may have to add ZEROES in front of or behind the decimal point.
To convert a fraction to a decimal, just DIVIDE THE DENOMINATOR INTO THE NUMERATOR.
A decimal expressed as a fraction is just re-written as the number / 100. If it is possible, you also have to reduce the fraction to its lowest terms. Examples:
- `0.62 = 62/100 = 31/50`
- `62% = 0.62`, we moved the decimal place 2 to the left (from behind the 2) using D2P and
- `0.62 = 62%`, we moved the decimal place 2 to the right (from in front of the 6) using D2P
