Algebra: Chapter 6, Lesson 9, p 291
Using Equations that Factor
Read through the problems carefully. Tips:
- If `n` is a number, then the next even (or odd) consecutive number is `n+2`
- For length/width problems, DRAW A PICTURE to help you get organized. Remember Area = Length * Width!
- A number `n` square is `n^2` and multiplied by 2 it becomes `2*n`
- For problems of dimension, remember that you can’t have NEGATIVE distances!

Using the Percent Proportion
Percents are no more that something over 100. So `52% = 52/100` and you can easily convert from fractions to percents by dividing the denominator into the numerator and moving the decimal 2 places to the right (remember D2P?).
To do the infamous “what is 52% of 212” type of problems, we use Ms. Phillips famous `whickity-whack divide` approach that we talked about in class.
Whickity-whack – Number, percent, of 100, whickity whack divide! SIMPLE!
