Equations as Functions
When evaluating a function, equations are written in FUNCTIONAL NOTATION, `f(x)`. The `f(x)` is read “f of x”.
Instead of having `y=x+4`, we can change the equation into a function, `f(x)=x+4`. We evaluate things instead of with `y`, but with `f(x)`. For example, if `f(x)=3x +4`, then to find `f(5)`, we substitute 5 for x and evaluate the right hand side. In this case, `f(5)=3*5 +4` or `f(5)=15+4` or `f(5)=19`.
