Definitions
- Integers and the Number Line
- Whole numbers: 0, 1, 2, 3 …
- Integers: Whole numbers and their opposites (e.g., … -4, -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 …)
- Positive integers are to the right of 0
- Negative integers are to the left of 0
- 0 is neither positive or negative
- < means less than
- > means greater than
- A mathematical sentence that contains an inquality symbol is called an inequality
- On a number line, numbers increase from left to right
- The ABSOLUTE VALUE of a number is its distance from 0 on the number line and we use the | symbol | to show absolute value.
- The ABSOLUTE VALUE is always a positive value!
