Pre-Algebra: Chapter 9 Review
It’s time to review Chapter 9! We should be able to:
- Write fractions in simplest form and determine unit rates
- Find the probability of simple events
- Use proportions to solve problems
- Use percent proportion to solve problems involving percents (whickity-whack divide)
- Use a sample to predict the actions of large groups
- Express decimals and fractions as percents and vice versa
- Use percents to estimate
- Solve percent problems using the percent equation
- Find percent increase or decrease (new – old)/old
Algebra: Chapter 10-9
Dividing Polynomials
To divide a polynomial by a monomial, divide each term by that monomial. If the divisor is not a monomial, then we need to use long (I call it synthetic from my ‘oldness’) division. It is just like regular division but takes a little getting use to. A tip is that the quotient should be in descending order and you need to include the missing terms. If the quotient is x^3 – x +1, I would re-write it as x^3 + 0x^2 + 0x +1. Practice makes perfect.
