Days 112 and 113 (February 27 and 28) are SNOW DAYS!

Pre-Algebra: Chapter 9-2

Problem Solving Strategy – Make a Table

You can use the following strategies on the reasoning strategy problems in this lesson!

1. Draw a diagram
2. Make an organized list
3. Look for a pattern
4. Try, test and revise
5. Use logical reasoning
6. Simplify the problem
7. Write an equation
8. Make a table
9. Work backward

Algebra: Chapter 10-2

Multiplying Rational Expressions

Just like fractions, we multiply numerators and denominators together but separately. We simplify the products by factoring and ensuring that there are NO common factors other than 1.

The best way to do is to practice. Here is a hotmath.com link with some explanations.

I have seen some strange cancellations in the numerators and denominators in yesterday’s (Chapter 10, Lesson 1) homework. I can’t explain it better so I am quoting from HOTMATH.com “You can only cancel off factors (the entire contents of a set of parentheses), not terms (one of the addends inside a set of parentheses). Going inside the parentheses and hacking x’s and y’s and arms and legs off the poor polynomial doesn’t simplify anything; it just leaves the little polynomial lying there on the floor, quivering and bleeding and oozing and whimpering…

Okay, maybe not; but you get the point: Never reach inside the parentheses and hack off part of the contents. Either you cancel off the entire contents with a matching factor from the other side of the fraction line, or you don’t cancel anything at all. (I told you I’d be making a big deal of this!)”
